There's just something about the lazy days of summer that makes us get lazy with our money, too. In fact, summertime is one of the seasons Canadians spend the most money – second only to Christmas!
Between August 20 and September 3rd 2019, Credit Canada hosted a contest where we asked users what you regretted most spending your money on this summer? From overpriced inflatables to trips to the zoo gone wrong, the responses we received were fantastic! Check out some of the awesome entries below.
My #SummerSpendingRegrets is a dress that i bought online and didn't fit . And eating at a restaurant cost a lot of money 😱
I spent my money on some new face cream.
This is my yoga swing. That has no where to hang which is what i so wanted to yoga swing outside all summer & now still in bag.
I overspent on some decadent treats!
Well I bought 2 hats this summer 👒👒....and I hate hats! So what are the chances I'll wear and make use of them?
I spent way too much money on our tourist-in-our-hometown weekend outing. we did have a lot of fun but we didn't need to buy the swag!
I bought these super expensive, super cute silhouette pictures of my kids. Haven’t gotten them framed or hung up yet. 🙈🤑
I bought a kayak that I have used once!
A dress off Amazon...a medium apparently is a muumuu?
I ordered a big inflatable floatie & was sent a toddler's size one instead of adult & it was too much of a hassle to ship it back. I donated it to a local community centre.
I bought summer clothing online, and pretty much none of it fit! I wasn't careful enough to read the return policy before I bought it - by time I paid for shipping, and a large 'restocking fee', it wasn't worth returning. Lesson learned!
I probably sat on more patios than I should have eating out....
All the hard work, water, electricity and expense to grow my own veggies and they didn't produce as much as any other year. #feelingdefeated #SummerSpendingRegrets
I "wrecked" my mailbox by painting it. So had to buy a new one. it's too sticky to use now. So spending money on a mailbox was not in my budget. #SummerSpendingRegrets. Blah. :(
when I went shopping in Palm Springs and forgot a shopping bag in the hotel room🤦♀️
I over spent on my kids. 2 cars and new clothes, ouch
I bought some camping gear that I haven't used, it went on sale 40% off but because it was more than 30 days since i bought it i wasn't offered the sale rebate :(
Ate too much ice cream 🍦🍨
We didn't shop when the grocery flyer had really good sales and when we shopped it was the first of the month when food is most expensive because that is when the pension cheques are issued. It cost us double for groceries and we got less for it.. It was just a few days difference when one grocery flyer sale ends and a new flyer comes out. (Someone else takes us shopping for groceries and was not available during the week that things were cheaper)
I regret *not* having spent money at the gardening centers. Spring was so late, and by the time I was ready to put in flowers, the best deals were done. I hate spending on over-priced plants at the end of the season.
A fancy garden hose I cannot figure out how to work it.
I always over spend on coffee. Doesn't really matter the season, but I tried and failed to buy less this summer
Bought a bunch of garden vegetables and because of the constant rain - they are not producing. =(
I bought a 6 man tent I only used once :(

I spent a ton of money on strawberries that went bad the next day 😞
I bought way too many cocktails when we were eating out this summer 🍹 🤦🏻♀️
I did get a backpack and too many summer shorts and shirts that did not use at all.
Too much eating and drinking out 😱
Dinner out with overpriced desserts.
Definitely on too many shoes! I love flip flops and I can wear them all day everyday but I bought a bunch and only wear the same pair everywhere lol
Spending money at restaurants is something we did often this summer and although the girls love it , man does it ever add up. It definitely was something that was a nice treat and then became a bit too much.

I paid way too much for a really good cell phone on a Friday evening. I ordered a expensive case online. But the case arrived on Tuesday, the day after my toddler niece grabbed it and dropped it. And yes - it smashed. It's now a paperweight :)

Wonderland passes :( we went a few times but wont go back again this year and still have 2 more payments on 6 passes :(
Too many tomato and pepper plants. It just wasn't hot enough, and they're still small, puny little things. Not good.
We bought a BBQ and have only used it twice. it was a cheap one and already the automatic start button doesn't work. i need to have my husband home to start 'er up!
I bought a hydro flask for $54
Ordered some summer sandals online in my size & when they arrived they were way too small - should have checked that they were European made & sizing was different OUCH!
I spent too much on a jacket, wore it twice and my puppy jumped up and it ripped 🤦♀️ I was regretting it first, then it was ruined, I shouldn't have gotten it! lol
Food out on daily basis...And clothes that I never wore😢😢😢
A few Funko Pops 🤦 they're cute but kind of pointless and expensive
Stocked up on sunscreen we didn’t use due to rain and it will expire before next summer
I paid way to much for a crappy bottle of wine...could have had 5 bottles of the cheaper stuff that I know is good! LOL!
Sandals that were a little tight, but thought they’d stretch if worn in. Wrong!...I purchased blisters lol

Taking the kids to the zoo. They fought and complained the entire time so after about an hour we left.
A lot of NBA gear.....
Bought some citronella plants & citronella wax candles to keep the mosquitos at bay this year & because of the extremely dry weather here on the prairies there were no pesky bugs to be found - a waste on the purchase.
The wrong paint for a DIY 👩🏼🎨😁 #SummerSpendingRegrets
